Issue: Freelancer Fonts are displayed too large in the Game
Reason: You most likely just copied a Freelancer Installation to a new Harddrive or didn’t used the normal CD Installation.
Solution: Simply run the Freelancer Setup (CD Install). You do not need to install it again, just run the setup and cancel it. Your Problem is gone.
]]>Issue: Freelancer is not creating a Multiplayer ID.
Reason: You most likely started Shadow of Fear without admin rights. Because of this Freelancer is not allowed to do anything on your Computer.
Solution: Start Freelancer with Admin Rights.
In a few rare situations (Win 8 ) Freelancer will not create a MP ID allthough you gave the Game the needed Admin rights. If so, download FlKeyGen, create a Multiplayer ID and activate it with Freelancer Account Manager:

]]>Issue: InGame crashes in several Situations
Reason: Computers needs their setup to run proper. Shadow of Fear is using upgraded DX9 settings, 3D sound, highly detailed Textures and several upgrades to the Freelancer engine itself. If you use an older version of Shadow of Fear you may run in trouble when older files will not be replaced when installing.
We can only please you, not to use other installation methods than the ones we are providing.
On modern Operating Systems you need to allow Administrator privileges to every file which is installing something over others. Because of this: allow the usage.
Other Issues are coming from old sound- and grafic drivers or an outdated DirectX Installation first place. Please refer to your grafic and sound vendors manual to download and install the newest possible grafics and sound drivers. For DirectX Issues refer to the appropriated post on this portal (under support).
The Method to install Shadow of Fear is specified on the portals Main Menu under Installation. Please do not use other ways. We made much efforts to have the Installation procedure as easy as possible for you.
Solution: Please use proper Installations
]]>Issue: Game is crashing to the Desktop after Accounts are switched
Reason: The massive changings to the original Freelancer Game with 88Flak in the Background and Shadow of Fear in Front are producing things which are for the moment not to find, because we do not invest much effort in searching them. Many things are impossible within Shadow of Fear – it comes with the unique Newbie Protection in which you can fly two starter ships which are equipped with an equipment part which will make it impossible to be harmed by other players but of course by NPC’s, undock kills are also impossible because the pilot is protected by the game for a good amount of time as the undocking player. F1 out of space is running for the one leaving space but the ship will still stay in space for a period of time even though the player is still away from the server. Additional to this it is not possible to come back with the same account for a few minutes. As well as 88Flak Shadow of Fear is started in a few seconds – so if you really need to switch your account, just leave the game and restart it after you switched the accounts.
Solution: For a later stage of the Mod.
]]>Rating: The issue is easy to solve.
Issue: Menu and Hud are missplaced to the left
Reason: sorry, that’s a problem we are working on but already known. Because of the needed widescreen support Shadow of Fear contains, we are using a community driven dll called hudshift.dll. Normally while installing, you can choose your Monitor settings but it’s not yet integrated into the downloadable versions.
Solution: goto your Freelancerdirecory\EXE and rename or delete the file hudshift.dll

Issue: d3dx9_40.dll is missing
Reason: You are using an older version of Windows (XP and lower) or a not proper updated newer version of Windows. Shadow of Fear comes with an actual and advanced rendering engine. Because of this Shadow of Fear needs the latest DirectX Update. While writing this post the newest version of DirectX for Windows XP and lower is 9.40.
Solution: patch your Windows to the newest DirectX Version – do not download the dll and put it somwhere because it would be a major security risk (if you are not getting a proper but a hacked version). Download the newest DirectX Version directly from Microsoft. If the Web Installer doesn’t work for you, just use the redistributable download. Update your Computer. Problem solved.
