Shadow of Fear » Spacesim http://shadowoffear.net/portal Shadow of Fear a Freelancer Modification Thu, 12 Feb 2015 21:03:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.3.33 I recognize a mouse lag when NPCs are spawning http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=389 http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=389#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2013 12:50:10 +0000 http://sof.zumreden.de/portal/?p=389 Rating: The issue is technically (code) related.

Issue: Mouse lag when NPCs are spawning, PC freezes

Reason: The freezing occurs when NPC Ships are not cached by your Game.

Solution: One solution is getting more ram for your pc or simply “make it faster” by a faster cpu. Often it helps to defrag your PC on a regular base. Still their is no real solution for this Problam than putting as much as possible power to the Game. The Freelancer Community is working on a solution.

I have low fps in Freelancer/ My grafic card seems to be to old http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=383 http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=383#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2013 12:11:45 +0000 http://sof.zumreden.de/portal/?p=383 Rating: The issue is technically related, easy to solve.

Issue: Low Frames per Second

Reason: You are most likely running Freelancer on an older or “bad” configured Machine. Often this problems occures because of using an onboard graphic chip with low graphics dedicated memory. Shadow of Fear and most other major Freelancer Mods are using Directx 9 interpreter to be able to use DirectX 9 features. Freelancer was born in times where DirctX 7 and 8 was actual now we are in times of DirectX 11.

Shadow of Fear is using the enb series converter of Boris Voronzov: http://www.enbdev.com/ . The settings of each Game are different. Modders mostly try to make their Mod looking as good as possible and because of this more and more grafical power is needed to display everything – eventhough Freelancer was developed on DirectX 8 and tend to be running on every modern Machine.

Solution: The easiest solution is to disable the DirectX 9 Features of the enb series. Ofc. everything will not be so shiny and 3D anymore but you are able to play the Game with enough fps. Just go to “Your Freelancer Directory” locate the EXE Folder and rename all containing d3d*.dll files (3) to for example d3d*.dll.bak. This way you are switching the DirectX 9 Functions off, logical the fps will rise.

Just a note: DirectX 9 Graphic Cards are a technique up to the year 2005. Everything builded after 2006 should natively support Directx 9. It is mostly a general graphic cards settings problem when your computer can’t handle Freelancer with the modded additions.

Freelancer 3D capable Videocard not detected http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=394 http://shadowoffear.net/portal/?p=394#comments Thu, 31 Jan 2013 10:13:10 +0000 http://sof.zumreden.de/portal/?p=394 Rating: The issue is not hard to solve.

Issue: Freelancer does not detect your Grafic Card

Reason: Your Grafic Card is newer than the Game.

Solution:

Freelancer had it´s Release in 2003.

You might think, well, perfect my Grafic Card is from 2012 this Game will run perfect within my High End Gaming System.

But unfortunal this old Game may not recognise your Grafic Card.

For this Louva-Deus (cudos man) updated the File which is responsible for the detection of your grafic card on a regular base. Unfortunal the File is now outdated.

But it is not that hard to do it yourself.

Just follow this manual step by step to put your grafic card into the database, so the game will proper recognize it:

First of all you need the manufacturer and the vendor of your Grafic Card.

With a freeware Tool called GPU-Z it will be easy to find out:

1) Download this tool by using this GPU-Z Download Link.

It´s an exe file, you do not need to install anything. Simply doubleclick it whereever you downloaded it to (on Vista and above with Admin rights please).

You will see something similar like this:

The marked parts are what you need.

1) Now open your mypathtofreelancer\Freelancer\EXE Directory in your Explorer.
2) Search for a file named flconfigdatabase.txt and open it with for example notepad (if the file is write protected you need to disable the write protection first).
3) Search your manufacturer in the file – in my case NVIDIA
4) Have a look where your type of Card is listed – in my case GeForce
5) Scroll down to the last GeForce (or ofc. your Crads type) entry – here it´s:

0x0398 = “GeForce Go7600 (??)” // added by Louva-Deus

for the GeForce Cards.

6) Now insert your Grafic Cards Vendor by using the second marked part of GPU-Z which is in my case 0A34 – simply put a 0x before and the correct name of your Card without the name of the manufacturer behind it so it will look like this for example:

0x0A34 = “GeForce GT 240M” // added by Daywalker

7) Save the File.

You will notice that several glitches will not exsist anymore. Also you will be able to see possible Mega Asteroids if the Mod supports them, which makes mining more profitable and some more things. In many cases where spawning NPC´s stucked the Game it also went away.

Keep on fragging 😉
